It was in the early 1990s that my particular interest in music was born. I could say that it all began with a certain "fellow", by the name Oliver Stone, who launched a film on the legendary rock group called THE DOORS (1991).
In that era, despite my age, I felt a deep passion for horror films (this attraction of mine arose several years before, when I watched a Michael Jackson video, called, "Thriller") and when I was not out and about engaged in "shenanigans" I would pass the time in the VideoShops, reading the jackets of films that seemed to me to be the most intriguing, so that then, with one friend or another, I would go and watch them over at my house.
The most fun, was to see them terrorized in front of the screen, while I laughed like a madman.
This was a small aside to arrive at, that, one fine day, I entered into my favourite VideoShop (it was so because I could rent any film that was restricted to minors!!!) and I went into the NEW Video Section. My eyes locked onto the film jacket, I immediately asked the attendant what he thought and his proper response was "leave it alone young one , it is not a film for you!" but this only served to make me rent it immediately.
After having seen it , it gave me an idea of what the life of a rock star could be... I understood that it was much worse than a horror film!
After not too long, another famous group began to interst me, Queen, that even today is one of my favourite bands. Little by little, I began also to listen to Guns'n'Roses, and Metallica, curious about the tribute concert to Freddy Mercury, in which they had participated after his death.
It was then, that after several years that groups like Nirvana, Sex Pistols and Green Day unleashed in me the desire to play music.
The drums were always for me one of the instruments that were most fascinating, and after the release of Dookie (1994), which marked a turn in my adolescence, that I understood what I wanted to do.
OK, initially, it was only an idea, a dream, but day after day it grew in me. For the moment I could do nothing other than to fantasize, seeing that, after all, I did not have an instrument!!!
I then found ways to get to know people whith whom I could share my various tastes in music genres; this served greatly to amplify my cultural vision of music, in general.
It was hard at first to ask for consent on the purchase of a drum kit from my parents, and so as a good son, every day I went into the kitchen and took pots and pans, plates, objects of various types and dimmensions, what ever I could put together, to get a "sound" that for me was pleasing... and armed with chop sticks from the chinese restaurant I gave into to the unabashed joy of playing until I could play no more!
I cannot still at this moment recall, how many cursings they hurled at me, but it came to a culmination when, seeing as I had not as of yet caused enough of a ruccus, having decided to pass from chinese chop sticks to real drumsticks... it was perhaps at that time when they arrived at the decision that maybe it was time to talk about it!!
And it was actually with this very tactic that I succeeded in stealing their consensus, the pact however, was that I earn them myself.
How wonderful, the better part was done! I waited expectantly for the summer, I grabbed the first job that came along and with the money that I earned I bought them.
